A PCB membrane switch may include a bare rigid board, mounted parts, switching elements, an adhesive spacer and a printed overlay. A comparable quotation identifies which design files, components, assembly operations and acceptance evidence belong to the delivered interface instead of treating every PCB panel as the same product.

IPC-2222, IPC-6012 and J-STD-001 address different parts of rigid-board design, bare-board performance and soldered-assembly manufacture. The RFQ must identify the applicable document, revision, class or customer criteria and the exact supplied scope; referencing a standard does not establish HYR, product or equipment compliance by itself.

Are PCB fabrication files enough to quote a complete PCB membrane switch?

They define only part of the supply item. A comparable quotation also needs the overlay artwork and windows, key and actuation stack, controlled BOM and sourcing rules, connector and component ownership, board-to-enclosure interface, assembly requirements and the electrical or functional checks expected at delivery. Missing interfaces remain open assumptions.

IPC boundary

Does an IPC class approve the complete PCB membrane-switch assembly?

No. Board-design requirements, rigid bare-board performance and soldered-assembly process or acceptance apply to different products and stages. Identify the exact document, revision, class or customer criteria and the supplied scope; the finished overlay, key response, enclosure interface and equipment validation still need their own evidence.

What should the first PCB membrane-switch sample prove?

Use the controlled board, BOM, overlay and switching stack in a representative enclosure. Confirm mechanical fit and alignment, key operation, display and LED windows, component and connector identity, pinout, electrical checks and any agreed assembly-level function. Record the drawing, data set, BOM, specimen and acceptance results used for approval.
